The company’s name was chosen to reflect the simple connection between pot and plant. For us to provide an attractive, quality hand-crafted planter, whether it be self-watering or not, where all our customers needed to do was ‘just add plants’. It’s that simple.

Our Story

Just Add Plants began in 2008. From a small business located in Brisbane’s northern suburbs, and has grown to be the dynamic wholesale planter company it is today. With our knowledgeable and dedicated team, along with our international manufacturing partners, our business has established itself as one of the market leaders in plant container design and manufacture, supplying products throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Predominantly servicing the indoor plant hire and event hire industries with our uniquely designed self-watering planters, we recently turned our attention to the retail home market to bring diversity into our business model. Our passionate and skilled design team has broadened their horizons creating a selection of elegant and stylish planter collections, reflecting current trends and our client’s expectations.

Importantly from our experience, a planter needs to not only be eye-catching and attractive, but its functionality needs to also allow its owner total ease of use. We have built our reputation on the continued refinement of our innovative self-watering planters, which are used extensively in many different situations. They are a masterpiece of ingenuity, and can never be compared alongside the humble garden pot. They stand alone as a unique product, and we stand behind them, always.

About OUr Planters

Why Choose a Fibreglass Planter?

Our Fibreglass and Fiberstone planters are uniquely designed like no other plant container on the market. Our exclusive collections consist not only of open planter styles, ideal for outdoor use, but enclosed planters with the versatile ability for self-watering. Each type has a range of innovative and distinctive features that is not only functional, but part of the refined beauty of each handcrafted life style planter produced.

Fibreglass is a widely regarded product, used throughout many industries because of its advantages over rival products such as wood, steel, plastic and Aluminium. It is almost inevitable that you have come into contact with Fibreglass in some product form in your daily life. It has a number of applications because of its durability, whilst also being less-energy intensive in development. Fibreglass, also known as glass fibre reinforced plastic, is made of molten glass material passed through a series of fine holes. During the manufacturing process, various types of resins are added to the glass fibre after it has been woven together to provide more strength. Additionally, the resins are also used to facilitate the moulding of fibreglass into various shapes. Fibreglass is used widely to manufacture building materials, swimming pools, tanks, automotive equipment, boats and plant containers.

There are several major advantages when choosing fibreglass made plant containers over other materials.

They are considerably less weight than planters made from timber, metal or concrete making them more manoeuvrable when needed in re-positioning.

Can be used widely in many indoor or outdoor situations and their versatile material means they can be made in any colour, texture or finish.

The durable fibreglass construction makes them strong and handle wear in high traffic areas more than other products (eg. plastic).

Unlike other plant containers, they do not rust, are resistant to salt air and most chemicals (including most acids) and do not rot like timber.

Fibreglass planters are much easier to clean compared to others.

All Fibreglass Planter designs are manufactured by using a shaped mould, which is lined with fibreglass sheeting. Resin liquid is applied to bind fibreglass together and create the outer surface of the planter. Multiple layers of fibreglass are used to create the main structure of the planter and give it strength. Fibreglass planters also have a reduced carbon footprint on the environment, because of their long-lasting use. Damaged fibreglass planters can easily be repaired and re-sprayed at a lower cost than other planters made from wood, aluminium or plastic, meaning they can be used again, again and again. When selecting your next plant container for an indoor or outdoor situation, make the right choice and purchase a lightweight, durable Fibreglass planter for long-lasting satisfaction.

How Our indoor Self-watering Planters Work

Bringing the lush green foliage and flowers from the outdoors into the home or office is always pleasing to the eye and harmonious to the soul. But to keep your plants adequately watered can be difficult. Our indoor lifestyle planter ranges are creatively designed with self-watering in mind, uniquely using the capillary watering method. Our self-watering planters have an in-built internal lip for a grow pot to be suspended on, so that it is not submerged within the water reservoir. Wicking cloth material is placed at the bottom of and through the drainage holes in the grow pot with enough length to reach the water reservoir to allow for capillary watering to take place.

Capillary watering: For self-watering to work effectively the distance between the water level in the water reservoir and base of the plant grow pot should be no greater than 30-40mm. A measuring tube is fed through a pre-made hole in the lip of the planter to measure the water level under the grow pot.

How our Indoor Planters Work as Cover Pots

Many of our indoor planters have incorporated a self-watering capability. This allows the option to use this approach as a self-watering planter or to use the planter as a type of ‘cover’ planter. Used as a ‘cover’ planter, a planted grow pot is suspended on the internal lip and needs to be removed from the planter for watering (usually on a weekly or fortnightly basis depending on the particular plant’s water requirements) and watered outside in a sheltered position out of direct sunlight, to allow it to drain. Then return it to the planter. If using the self-watering method, always check water levels in the water reservoir to ensure it is not filled too high and the grow plant pot is not submerged into the water.

How our Outdoor Planters Work

Our outdoor planters are made for direct planting and do not have an internal lip. Always use a good quality lightweight potting media and never garden soil when planting directly into planters. Heavy soil mixtures can possibly cause bowing and cracking, and also create compaction, limiting vital air and water to be available to the plant’s roots.

Ensure all outdoor planters have adequate drainage. Drainage holes can be easily drilled into the base or lower sides of the Fibreglass planters to provide water runoff.
These planters can also be used as outdoor cover pots by fitting a planted grow pot into the opening of your selected outdoor planter. You might need to add some garden pebbles underneath the grow pot up so that the plant is well positioned at the correct height inside the pot.

MAINTENANCE & CARE

Whether your planter is for indoor or outdoor use, there’s a couple of things that you can do to make sure they remain looking good for a lifetime.

Regularly wipe the exterior surfaces of your planter with a clean non-abrasive cloth and warm soapy water. Where oil or stains may appear (especially matt or textured surfaces), apply a multi-purpose cleaning product like De-Solv-It Citrus Spray. Use as directed.
